This may be a short piece where I am saying something but nothing. An elusive dance with tendrils of mystery swirling around you, not quite able to articulate what occurred or from whence it came. Like hearing the song of a star a hundred light years away – its impression ephemeral and faint, but stirs something from your depths.

Initiation. A sacred passage. We can describe it as crossing the threshold of a metaphorical door from one side to the other. Once you pass the beams of that portal, you emerge anew. Different. Changed.

There is a portal to enter. Rooms are changing. When you cross the threshold, you disassemble what you were then must reassemble into something new. Just go with it. Summon trinkets in the new world. We are in the dance with forms and things. No need to be overly concerned with what they are. After this door there will be another one where you have to do it all over again.

Mother Nature has organic stages of initiation we go through. The passage from childhood to adulthood. Rites like relationships/marriage, children, accomplishment, tragedy, struggle and loss. We can all summon from memory life experiences that left a mark on us. We evolved, shifted or changed in one way or another from those rites of passage. We were no longer the same. The earthly material that we are is left with a deep impression that shapes us going forward.

Initiation of a magickal or mystical nature takes on a different quality and quantity from the organic unfolding of life. There is deliberate activation. The energy involved can be from an egregore or developed system of practices and rites, sustained by a lineage or other powers that be. An energetic signature and coding is involved that you can only tap into through direct initiation. Its true essence is inaccessible unless you are ushered into it under the wings of initiation.

The access points to initiations are many fold. You can self initiate yourself in some systems. You can be initiated into an established order or lineage. You can experience initiations on other levels of existence, be it transmitted from another human being or non-corporeal forms. One can elect to consciously undergo only one initiation, or seek out several initiations in the course of their lifetime.

To approach initiation means a willingness to change and be completely transformed. To understand that who you are at the beginning is not who you will be at the end. Initiation implies elements of spiritual evolution and improvement. The intent is that you somehow become a well-rounded person, more developed and more refined in your path, be it a one-act event or an initiation that unfolds over several years.

To be a long time magickal practitioner almost definitely means you will experience some degree of initiation. The form and means by which that initiation is cultivated varies practice to practice. By engaging with the science and art of magick, your innermost will be more tangibly shaped and defined by the quality and quantity of your respective system; in ways that common folk do not seek out. Sometimes fate or life will bring us opportunities to be initiated. Other times one must deliberately seek them out, answering a call that comes from deep within, like hearing the song from a star a hundred light years away.
